Back in the summer we were delighted to capture Sarah’s & Dan’s  East Quay wedding in Whitstable.  The bridal preparations took place at Sarah’s mum’s where Lydia Rae worked here magic providing flawless make up for the bridal party.

Sarah & Dan’s very intimate ceremony was conducted by a family friend at All Saints Church, Birchington, after which they made their way in a beautiful VW Camper to one of our favourite local venues, East Quay Venue, Whitstable (or The Lobster Shack as it is also known as).  The venue had been beautifully decorated by Thanetian Events & Jane at Graham Greener. All Saints Birchington wedding

The day was full of love and laughter which was especially evident during the wedding speeches and the wedding marryoke which BBV Wedding Productions were creating through the day as part of the video package the couple had booked.

The evening’s entertainment was provided by the fantastic jazz-swing band, Hullabaloo and disco by Celebration Sounds

Sarah and Dan have kindly agreed share the story behind their special day and some wedding tips to help others planning their wedding day.

How did you guys meet?
We first met in 2003 when we were both at secondary school, Dan was 15 and I was 13, he was a friend of my brothers and we met at band practice!

How did you get engaged? Is there a cool story?
We got engaged on the 18th June 2013, we had gone on holiday to Tenerife with my brother, his partner and my niece. Me and Dan booked a trip called Teide by Night, the evening started with a three course meal, we then got to watch the sun set over Mount Teide. While we were wrapped up in a blanket, drinking champagne and watching the sunset, Dan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, this was then followed by star gazing before heading back down the mountain.

What made you choose your wedding venue?
We always knew we wanted a traditional church wedding and Dan had family links with All Saints Church in Birchington and so it felt right to choose that church. We wanted a venue that was relaxed, by the sea and something a bit rustic/quirky that could also fit a large number of guests. We immediately feel in the love with East Quay Venue and did not hesitate in booking our wedding after meeting with Clare and being shown around.

What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
We wanted a relaxed atmosphere for the venue, me and Dan had our first date at the beach and due to the location of the venue we chose to following a seaside theme, with beach huts, VW campers and a royal blue colour theme.

What was your first song and why?
Our first song was LOVE by Nat King Cole, we chose this song because the singer was a favourite of my grandparents who had passed away prior to our wedding and therefore it had a lot of meaning to us. The band for our wedding were a jazz band and therefore this also fitted in well as they could sing this for us rather than it being played. We wanted a song that was more upbeat that we could learn a routine to.

Do you have any tips you would like to share with other planning their big day?

  • Make sure you are organised, my mum’s spreadsheets were a life safer for us!
  • Take it one step at and time – try not to take on too much too fast
  • Try and make the day personal to you, for example we asked a family friend to conduct the service and Dan’s uncle played music while we signed the register
  • Try not to get too hung up on the little details
  • Take 5 minutes away on the day to look around at everyone enjoying themselves, everyone says it but the day really does go before you know it!

Natalie & Danny’s wedding {Marleybrook House}

We are the first to admit that we aren’t very good at keeping up to date with our wedding blog.  At the start of every year we make it our New Year’s resolution to keep up with our wedding blog.  We have every good intention of regularly blogging about the beautiful weddings we’re lucky enough to capture, but hand’s up once the wedding season well and truly kicks in we fail!  So with the discovery today of some software for making short videos out of images we thought it would be great to test out a beautiful wedding we captured in the summer at Marleybrook House and get blogging!

Natalie and Danny’s wedding took place in July at the beautiful Canterbury wedding venue, Marleybrook House.  We love photographing weddings at this particular Kent wedding venue and by coincidence when we look book at our diary we were photographing at Marleybrook House on the same Saturday the previous year too!

Natalie and Dan chose our complete Photography & Video Package so we started the day with Andrew, the videographer, at The Salutation in Sandwich, where Natalie and her bridal party were getting ready.  On arrival we found one very chilled bride to be.  She was surrounded by her bridesmaids and her parents who had travelled from Cyprus to share her wedding day.  Bridal preparations completion it was off to Marleybrook House for the wedding ceremony and reception.  It was a pleasure to capture Natalie & Dan’s special day and even though Dan professed to hate having his photo taken we managed to put together a beautiful collection images for them even some romantic ones Danny!

After a slight delay caused by a mix up with the coach bringing the guests the day went without a hitch.

James & Michelle’s wedding

Marine Hotel Tankerton Wedding

Pre-wedding meeting

We met James and Michelle last summer for their wedding consultation at their wedding venue, The Marine Hotel Tankerton.  The couple told us that they had been searching for Marine Hotel wedding photographers and were keen to use a local wedding photographer.  The hotel is one of the nearest venues to us and we have enjoyed photographing a number of weddings there in the last couple of years since it’s refurbishment.  James’ parents had joined them as they had tied the meeting to a stopover in the area.  Although they all lived in Essex they love the Herne Bay/Whitstable and often visit for for weekends – James and Michelle dream of one day moving to the area but in the meantime planned to have their wedding here.

Time flew past and it was soon time for a pre-wedding chat – the perfect excuse for the couple to book another weekend in the area, this time accompanied by their dog.

Wedding Day

Their wedding took place on warm and breezy August afternoon.  Michelle had booked the Sunset Loft, Tankerton for the night before and the bridal preparations.  The accommodation is ideally placed within walking distance of The Marine Hotel.  When we arrived Michelle was extremely relaxed and very excited.  The rooms at the loft are very light and airy perfect for some beautiful bridal preparation images.  After we had photographed Michelle’s stunning David Tutera wedding dress and her elegant Kate Spade wedding shoes Nicola met the groom and his party at The Marine Hotel.  The ceremony took place in the Lounge followed by the wedding breakfast in the self contained Galley Suite which looked beautiful with the pink uplighters and the beautiful flowers supplied by Jane and her team from Graham Greener, Florists, Whitstable

Although we were blessed with a warm sunny day unfortunately it was accompanied by very strong westerly winds which made some of the wedding group photos a little challenging!  Although we were able to take them on the Tankerton Slopes which back a fantastic backdrop for wedding images.

The wedding breakfast was followed by a the speeches which included a hilarious contribution from James’ three bestmen complete with the aid a Powerpoint show.

It was an absolute pleasure to capture James’ and Michelle’s special day and to meet their lovely family and friends Please enjoy a small selection of their wedding images.

“Well what can we say, don’t think there is any words. From the very first meeting with Stuart & Nicola to our wedding day the service was more than we could of wanted. You both are such a lovely/amazing couple and captured everything on our wedding day. The photos are perfect and more than what we imagined they would be. We are both excited now to see our wedding book all put together for a keep sake and to show friends and family. We would 100% recommend and already have to another couple who used Bay Images. Once again thank you so so much xxx  Michelle & James Piddington

Love conquers all!

Who doesn’t love a true love story? We couldn’t resist sharing this one with you.

Earlier in the year we received an enquiry from Alan about photographing his forthcoming wedding.  We arranged to meet Alan and his fiancee at their chosen wedding venue, Leeford Place Hotel, Battle.  As we sat and had coffee Alan & Diane shared with us their love story.

They had originally met and “courted” when they were both 17 years old after a while they parted company and moved on.   They both went on to meet and marry other partners and between them had 5 children.  Over the years Diane still was kept up to date on Alan’s life via a mutual friend.  A few years ago Diane learned that Alan was single again and eventually plucked up the courage to contact him via email.  As it happens Alan didn’t see her message for several months when he did he couldn’t believe his eyes.  They began “courting” again it soon became evident that they were meant to be together and soon began planning their wedding day.

Alan said he deeply regretted letting Diane go the first time round and this time he was determined to waste no more time tying the knot.  “It’s something they should have done years ago”, he quipped.

The wedding take place on a beautiful spring day in April.  When we arrived at the venue both Alan and Diane were incredibly relaxed.  The wedding ceremony at Leeford Place Hotel was attended by 80 of their closest family and friends.  There was absolutely no doubt of the couple’s love for each other and it was probably one of the most heartfelt ceremonies that we have ever witnessed.

We felt truly honoured to be part of such a special love story.
